View of the Jethro Coffin House, also known as the Oldest House, a saltbox house built in 1686. The view through an open door shows a braided rug and chair at the base of stairs curving up to the next floor. The house was built in 1686 as a wedding gift for Jethro Coffin, a blacksmith and the grandson of Tristram Coffin, one of Nantucket Island's original proprietors, and his bride, Mary Gardner.
