Drew Pearson on Vacation

Columnist Drew Pearson, who with Robert S. Anderson and later with Jack Anderson, pioneered modern political investigative reporting. Pearson was one of the first nationally-known journalists to challenge Joseph R. McCarthy. After a steady stream of criticism from Pearson during 1950, Senator Joseph R. McCarthy responded in a floor speech that called Pearson the voice of international communism and asked the public to boycott Pearson's radio sponsor. The nervous sponsor withdrew in ten days, demonstrating McCarthy's power and influence.
