Fort Crawford

Former residence of the commanding officer. General Zachary Taylor was its first resident. It was subsequently rebuilt under the command of General Brooke. In the post-Fort era, the house was owned by John Lawler who designed the city's railroad pontoon bridge across the Mississippi in 1874. It was later incorporated into the old Sanitarium (now the Sutter office building). Still later it was used as an annex to the Crawford County Courthouse.
