| Additional Comments |
A 'site file' titled "Horlick Industrial Historic District" exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, State Historic Preservation Office. 2011- "Built c.1900, the malt mill (2220 Northwestern Ave.) is rectangular in plan with cream brick walls and a flat roof. The front elevation of the building faces southwest. The building has a 3-story center mass with taller masses on each end (5 stories at the northwest end, 7 at the southeast). The corbelled corner capitals and cornice found in the 2 main factory buildings are repeated in this building. The northwestern building mass also has a crenellated parapet running the perimeter of the roof. Windows throughout the building are round-arched 1-over-1 double-hung; several of these original window openings have been filled in with concrete blocks. A long 1-story addition (c.1975) with a low-pitched gable roof and brick and metal siding has been added to a portion of the southwest elevation. Entrances to the building are located in each side of the addition and in the southwest and northeast elevations of the original building." -"Horlick Industrial Historic Districkt", WisDOT #2290-17-00, Prepared by GLARC (Gail Klein), (2011). |
