A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation. MOULDED CORNICE TOPPED BY PLAIN BRICK PARAPET. MONUMENTAL DORIC ENTRANCE PORTICO. SIDE BAY W/DORIC PILASTERS AND TALL ROUND ARCH WINDOW. TALL WINDOWS W/FLAT BRICK LINTELS AND KEYSTONES. This one-story NeoClassical Revival building was constructed in 1919 to house the U. S. Post Office, and other federal offices. The cost of construction and site acquisition amounted to $80,000 (History of Lincoln, Oneida and Vilas Counties, p. 120-21). The building is finished with red brick, has a wood entablature with simple classical moldings, and features a central, pedimented portico with Doric columns, a fanlight over the front door, and wood panels with wreaths and swags. The windows have stone sills and flat brick arches with stone keystones. The Post Office moved to a new building in 1963 (Oneida County: 1887-1987, p. 38). |
