This is a two and one half story, clapboard, multi-gabled Queen Anne house with fully developed elevations facing Drew and Franklin streets. The most notable features are the remarkable front porch with its square gazebo-like, hip-roofed corner pavilion and the shallow, Corinthian columned second floor balcony facing Franklin Street. There is a modern, gable-roofed, two-car garage at the rear. Garage also on property. Additional map codes are: 7/29. This structure contributes to the significance of the Appleton City Park Historic District as a fine example of a late Queen Anne style house illustrating the Free Classic phase of the style. This well conserved house exhibits the growing classical influence of the late 1890s in its detailing and extensive use of classical columns while still exhibiting the picturesque massing, scrolled bracketing and wrap-around verandah typical of the Queen Anne mode. |
