HARDWARE STORE HAS SEGMENTAL ARCHED WINDOWS REALTOR'S HAS GABLED DORMER Contractor James Owens erected this building in 1888. The cast-iron storefront features columns embellished by a garland. The tall second story once housed the Masonic Lodge hall. The triangular pediments above the second-story windows still display the Masonic emblems incised in the keystones. The pediments and the bracketed cast-iron cornice are Italianate touches on this otherwise plain commercial building. "The Mazomanie Masonic Lodge constructed this building of brick on a cut-stone foundation. For a two-story building, it was unusually tall because the second floor was designed to accommodate the lodge hall. Noteworthy architectural features are the elaborate cut-stone sills and lintels on the second floor windows and the cast-iron supporting columns on the first floor. The first floor has been rented out for use as a grocery store, drug store, clothing store, and office equipment store. The second floor has been used until the present time by the Masons and Crescent Lodge No. 97. An 1898 addition on the west end was used as a public library from 1912 to 1934 and by the Mazomanie Historical Society as a museum from 1966 to 1974."
