Frederick Heydecke and Company Store: "Another of Mazomanie's early retail buildings, the Heydecke Store shares a common main facade with the Jones Store immediately to the east, making them seem to be part of one larger building. The original twenty- by fifty-foot store was constructed of brick which rests on a cut-stone foundation. Many original features, such as the cast-iron window frames, supporting columns, and bulkheads are still visible today. Additions in 1886, 1897, and 1899 brought the building to its present dimensions.

It was used for a general store, furniture store, and undertaking parlor in early years. Later it was an appliance store ans offices. The upper floor has been used for residences.

Frederick W. Heydecke was born in Germany and came to Mazomanie in 1858. Originally a harness maker, he later sold groceries and dry goods." Mazomanie Downtown Historic District, Mazomanie Historical Society, 1993.

Jonathon Jones Store Building: "When Jonathon Jones built this store to house his Mazomanie Pharmacy, it was similar in size and design to the Heydecke Building. It was constructed of brick resting on a cut-stone foundation. Originally the main facade shared by the two buildings was surmounted by a taller brick cornice that was damaged in a 1906 fire and was never restored. Unlike its companion building, the Jones store has been greatly altered.

The first floor has been used as a drug store, barbershop and offices, the upper floor for residences.

Jonathan Jones came to the United States from Wales in 1851 and the Mazomanie in 1859. In addition to a druggist, he was also a teacher and a minister of the Congregational Church." Mazomanie Downtown Historic District, Mazomanie Historical Society, 1993.
