"Charles Trager's original brick building, built to provide room for his growing carriage and wagon making business, was only twenty feet wide. A large addition in 1875 more than doubled its size, providing space for a blacksmith shop on the first floor and a paint shop upstairs. When Trager's business changed in 1883, the building was modified to accommodate a restaurant, bakery, saloon, and residential space.

In later years the building has continued to be used as a tavern and has been used for other businesses as well, including a shoe repair shop and craft store. Charles J. Trager, a native a Germany, came to Mazomanie in 1864. He was a wagon manufacturer for eighteen years." Mazomanie Downtown Historic District, Mazomanie Historical Society, 1993.
