A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. A two story rectangle, this utilitarian brick building has a roadside facade divided by piers into twelve bays with brickwork cornices. The parapeted cornice, masking a flat or shed roof, is stepped above the three bays left of center. Second story segmental arched windows, one in each end bay and pairs in the intermediate bays, have been reduced with brick to raised vertical openings infilled with glass block and provided with new cement sills. The stone-silled, metal framed segmental arched, factory sash windows of the first story, one in each end bay and three in each intermediate bay, are intact, except where eliminated by apertures in the fifth bay from the left and the second bay from the right. Those enlarged vehicular openings are fitted with metal doors. A doorway in the left end bay has a somewhat modern metal framed door with transom. An inscribed stone tablet is set above the center window of the first story in the seventh bay from the left, the center bay of the stepped section. F in photo code stands for Fox Canal Survey. 1996- "Thirteen brick pilasters vertically articulate the two-story, Main Street facade of this historic Bergstrom Paper Company factory structure, which is currently utilized by the Hormeister Machine Corporatio. The resulting twelve bays feature segmental brick arching and lug sills' the upper edge of the entire structure features a staggered brickwork design. Lower-story fenestration retains the original standard factory sash openings; however, the second-level openings appear to have been shortened (bricked-in), and rectangular glass block has been placed within the arched frames. Additionally, two garage door openings are located along the Main Street facade. While this brick, industrial building is somewhat vernacular in appearance, the original company's contribution to the economy and paer-milling industry of Neena is significant." -"Main St Overpass: Neenah, WI", WisDOT#4993-00-70, Prepared by Heritage Research, Ltd., (1996). |
