Sanborn-Perris maps show that in 1938 this site was occupied by a two-story brick fire station/village hall building. It is not known if the present one-story Twentieth Century Commerical Style building incorporates any part of this earlier building, but its design suggests a construction date in the early 1940s. 1995- "Sanborn maps show that this one-story Twentieth Century Commercial style bullding was built after 1938. 'l'hese same maps also snow that in 1938 this site was occupied by a two-story brick bu1ld1ng that nausea Westby's Fire Department and the Village Hall, but it 1s not known it today's one-story building incorporates any portion ot this earlier bu1ld1ng. The present building, however, is a good representative later example ot its style and it is rectilinear in plan, has brick-clad exterior walls, and a main facade that face north onto State Street. The original main facade apparently consisted ot a recessed entrance door to the right and a large display window to the right, both of whlch were crowned by a still intact stone or concrete cornice. Both the original entrance door and display window nave now been replaced with modern elements but the original openings themselves are both still intact." 2018 - This is a one-story brick commercial vernacular building. It was originally two stories in height and housed the village fire station, village hall, and Westby’s first public library. The second story of this building was removed in 1968 and the first story was completely remodeled to better suit the library after the village hall and fire station were relocated. This building housed Nordic Sports (a retailer) in the 1990s and currently functions as a pharmacy. |
