The first known business in this building was the long-time tailor shop operated by Jacob Brunner between 1868 and 1915. It was, for several years, a restaurant, and then a fruit market. This building has some historical interest as the location of several businesses. None are individually historically significant, but they contribute to the overall development of commerce in the Main Street Commercial Historic District. Characterized mainly by a denticulated molded and cut brick cornice, this small two-story, three-bay facade is characterized further by plain rectnagular windows topped by projecting triangular shaped window heads. Built for the tailor, Jacob Brunner, in 1868, the building's west bay has a blind door opening with dentil trim along the top of the opening. The Brunner shop and residence has been altere dby the addition of a storefront remodelled in a contemporary manner and by the application of paint to the facade. A cream brick addition is located at the rear. The Jacob Brunner Tailor Shop is a commercial vernacular building characterized by a brick cornice and Italianate triangular pediment shaped window heads. Although this building is not architecturally significant, the Brunner building contributes to the historic architectural character of the proposed Main Street Historic District. |
