Additional Comments In 1885 this building housed the Charles Piper harnassmaking shop. Between 1889 and 1899, it was the location of the William Raue paint store. Between 1907 and 1930 it was the location of the Harry Stube shoe store.

This building has some historical interest as the location of several retail businesses. None are individually historically significant, but they contribute to the overall development of commerce in the Main Street Commercial Historical District.

Built after fire destroyed the frame building previously on the site in 1870, the Harry Maldaner building is a small two-story commercial building characterized by raised brick round arched window heads. Placed on raised capped brick pilasters, the windows are situated in each of the three recessed bays of the upper facade. The original round arched wooden window frames remain on the building.

Although a leaded glass (now painted) transom extended across the upper storefront continues to be part of the storefront, the remainder of the storefront has been remodeled in a contemporary manner. Recessed entrance doors topped by transom windows are located at both ends of the storefront. A one-story decked cream brick addition is located at the rear.

The Henry Maldaner building is a vernacular building exhibiting the influence of the Romanesque Revival, mainly through the dominance of the round aches on the upper facade. Although this building is not architecturally significant, the Maldaner building contributes to the historic architectural character of the Main Street Commercial District.
