| Additional Comments | Stone Greek Revival structure (according to an old photograph) that is now in ruins. The church cost $1,200 and seated 250 people. The property was deeded to the city for community use in 1926. No roof, doors, windows, or floors remain. Thsi church structure is important to the religious development of the community. The first meeting of the first Congregational Church was held at the Primitive Methodist Church in March 1848. This stone structure was built during the period 1849 to 1853. An audience of 250 people could be seated. This building continued to be used until 1895 when a larger church was erected just west. The last congregational service was held in November 1926. This older structure in the meantime had been used as the high school basketball court. The building has served a number of purposes, but is now in ruins. |
