This one-and-one-half-story frame Bungalow was built in 1909 for Anson S. and Clara Pierce
(1908 Sanborn Map of Rhinelander; Rhinelander telephone books). It has a full-facade, cutaway,
front porch with Doric columns and exposed rafters; and a hip-roofed dormer with exposed
rafters. Pierce (1859-?) was born in Buffalo, New York (History of Lincoln, Oneida and Vilas
Counties, p. 235). He worked as a lumber salesman, and was a partner in the Day, Daniels and
Pierce Lumber Company from at least 1895 until at least 1897. Pierce had his own lumber
company (Danielson and Pierce) from at least 1901 until at least 1927 (Wisconsin State
Gazetteers; Rhinelander City Directories). Pierce lived in the house until at least 1930, and it
remained a part of his estate, following his death, until at least 1940. Clara Pierce served as
supervisor of the Oneida County Pension Department during the 1930s (Rhinelander City
Directories).
