MUCH ELABORATE CARVING4 STORY ENTRY TOWER W/ INTERNATIONAL STYLE CNR WINDOWS [Date Cnst:CA] 2007: Modern additions on west and east ends. 2020 - West Allis Central High School was historically situated on the 85th Street block of W. Lincoln Avenue, north side of the street facing south. From its construction in 1933 through the additions of the 1940s, the school property was framed by Lincoln Avenue, 86th Street, W. Grant Street and 85th Street. The original block of the school was constructed of brick in the Art Deco style and featured a prominent, centered, four-story tower, the vertical emphasis and hard lines of which were very apparent as were the stylistic embellishments that crowned the tower. Extending to the east and west of the tower were three floors of classrooms defined by four bays set apart by three columns. Each bay claimed a unit of three, 6-over-9-light double-hung sash windows on each floor while each column was crowned by a concrete cap. Concrete coping extended along the parapet, between the central tower, the columns and the blocks at the southwest and southeast corners of the school. As time passed and the City of West Allis grew, so did the school. It ultimately claimed by year 2000 two large additions to the east and west of the original school and its early additions. |
