Henry D.L. and Jennie Adkins House Listed on the National Register of Historic Places
For Immediate Release (January 17, 2024)
ELKHORN, Wis. - The Wisconsin Historical Society announces the listing of the Henry D.L. and Jennie Adkins House in Elkhorn (Walworth County) on the National Register of Historic Places. The house was added to the National Register on January 4, 2024.
The Adkins House is a two-story Georgian Revival-style single-family residence with a symmetrical façade, distinctive textured brick cladding, a prominent front porch with classical columns, windows with exaggerated keystone lintels and elaborate decorative molding under the eaves. Built in 1910, the Adkins House has retained its fine period revival details, materials and craftsmanship. As a result, it is a distinctive representation of the Georgian Revival style.
The house was designed by Chicago architect Henry K. Holsman. It faces the courthouse square, a park-like area that contains the Walworth County governmental offices. The square is lined with historic commercial and civic buildings on its east and south sides, while the west and north sides contain residences and churches, many of them large and finely detailed.
