Quarter-length portrait of John N. Brown, a second lieutenant in companies G and E, 15th Wisconsin Infantry, in uniform. The following information was obtained from the Regimental and Descriptive Rolls, Volume 20: He resided in Christiana, Wisconsin. On October 31, 1861, he enlisted in Madison, Wisconsin and on December 8, 1861, he was mustered into service in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin at the age of 20. Initially he was mustered in as a sergeant in Company K, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry, but he was reduced the rank of private on May 18, 1862. In November 1862, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in Company G, 15th Wisconsin Infantry. In December 1862, he was detached to Company E, 15th Wisconsin Infantry, and was wounded during the fighting at Stone River, Tennessee on December 31, 1862. He was sent to a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee to recover from wounds received. On April 9, 1863, he resigned his commission and was mustered out of service.
