MacArthur Pine

A view from the ground looking up the trunk of an enormous white pine named for the famous general. The crown appears disproportionately small due to the height of the trunk. In the 1940's the tree was considered to be the largest white pine in the world, with a height of 140 feet and trunk circumference of 17 feet 6 inches. Larger specimens were later found. The MacArthur Pine fell to the ground in 2001, as a result of fire damage that may have been caused by a lightning strike.
