William T. Evjue, editor and publisher of the Madison "Capital Times," who was well-known for his "crusades" such as his opposition to gambling, Senator Joseph R. McCarthy, and Congressman Alvin O'Konski, as well as his support for Frank Lloyd Wright and the Madison Auditorium. He is seen here leaving the White House shortly after Senator McCarthy made national headlines with a speech at Wheeling, West Virginia. According to the original AP caption, Evjue told President Truman that McCarthy was "not a man to be setting a pattern of Americanism or patriotism for anybody."
