Hand-colored lithograph of the male, left, and female copper pheasant, prepared by Wm. E. Hitchcock from drawings of specimens collected in Japan by William Heine. Heine was the artist on Commodore Perry's Expedition to the China Seas and Japan. Dutch zoologist Coenraad Jacob Temminck (1778-1858) is cited as the authority for the scientific name of the bird.
