Additional Comments 1998-
Rusk County USARC consists of two buildings (a training building and a vehicle maintenance shop) on 5.97 acres of land in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. The facility is located approximately one-quarter of a mile from the Flambeau River. The area immediately surrounding the buildings is mostly covered by asphalt or concrete. The land has been significantly altered by construction activities and grading for parking areas. The facility is located in a rural residential area.

A records search at the Wisconsin State Historic Preservation Office revealed one archaeological site (47-RU-27) within a one-mile radius of the facility. The USARC property has been significantly disturbed by construction activities. Once a wetlands area, the land was reclaimed using large amounts of fill. Although Rusk County USARC is located along a river and is in an area where early fur trappers and traders were known to meet, an on-site assessment determined that there is a low probability of finding extant archaeological remains on the property.

The buildings are in good condition and do not appear to have been significantly modified since their original construction. Neither exhibits significant architectural character or merit.

The maintenance shop functions as a vehicle maintenance facility for Rusk County USARC. Constructed in 1978, it is a square 1½-story structure that rests on a poured concrete foundation and has poured concrete walls with a brown brick veneer. Two metal overhead-retractable bay doors and a single metal pedestrian door with a central light are located on the south wall. Additional entrances include a paired metal pedestrian door on the north wall. A flat roof covers the structure.
