Additional Comments Raze order waived by the WHS on 3/12/2004. Built in 1899 for C. Baumann, this two story red brick Commercial Vernacular building shows influences of the later Italianate as w3ell as commercial Queen Anne styles. Like its near neighbors, its flat cornice line is decorated with bracket like corbels reminiscent of the Italianate style. Its tri partite window opening under a double arch, however, it more fanciful, reflecting Queen Anne influence. The street level store front of this building retains its original integrity. Cast iron pilasters and brick side piers support a casts iron cross beam decorated with pater. Thee kick plate beneath the show window has also been retained. Snap in mullions giving a multi pane effect area a later addition.

This property is a contributing member of the Marshfield Central Avenue Historic District under Criterion C of the National Register of Historic Places. It is representative of the Archivecture Theme of the Wisconsin Cultural Resource Management Plan as an example of Commercial Vernacular architecture with Italianate and Queen Anne details. This building was constructed in 1899 for C. Baumann, and replaced a one story wood frame store on the same site. In 1904, a hardware store occu[pied the building. In 1912 a bakery was located on the first floor and a barbershop occupied the basement. By 1925, a plumbing shop had replaced the bakery. In 1946 an unidentified store occupied the building. The historic address for this property is #@103 North Central Avenue. It changed to #107 in 1946.
