Additional Comments Gable roofed one and a half story house with flat arched windows and enclosed front brick and frame porch with side entrance. The Hauswirth House is a one-story, side-gable house constructed c.1928. It is clad in brick with a decorative brick water table, and rests on concrete foundation. Asphalt shingles cover the side gable roof, which features a central chimney and a small gable dormer on the front (west) facade. An enclosed porch is located on the south (side) elevation. A shed-roof portico extends beyond a small enclosed entry porch on the front facade, where the main entrance is accessed via concrete steps with a low brick railing capped with concrete. The entry porch, dormer walls, and upper portion of the enclosed porch are clad in replacement siding. Windows are a combination of the original two-over-two double-hung and one-over-one replacement windows and have sleeper brick sills. Small awning basement windows are located on the east (rear) elevation. Research indicates that George Hauswirth constructed the residence and adjacent filling station (AHI# 80017) between 1926 and 1928. The property was evaluated for the National Register under Criteria A, B, and C. Research did not reveal any significant associations under Criterion A: History or Criterion B: Significant Person. Although historically associated with the potentially eligible filling station, the house itself does not possess significance. While largely intact, the house is a modest example of a common form. It displays little decorative detail and lacks sufficient interest to qualify as eligible under Criterion C: Architecture. A DOE is not recommended. 2025; This property was evaluated for the National Register under Criteria A, B, and C. Preliminary research did not suggest any potential for significance under Criterion A: History or Criterion B: Significant Person. Under Criterion C: Architecture, the house is a modified example of the vernacular side-gable style. It has additionally been moved from its prior location near the intersection and relocated to its current lot to accommodate the gas station’s construction. It does not have sufficient architectural interest or integrity to be eligible for the National Register.
