This 2 story commercial building has stone and metal exterior fabric. The roof is flat and there is a rear addition. Plate glass is on the 1st story and the entry is stepped back. Alterations have destroyed the original integrity of this structure to the point where it has no architectural significance. An 1878 photo shows this site and the one south of it (SC 24-24), as being part of Bixby and Williams general Store (Ward S. Williams and Samuel Bixty-E) (See SC 20-13). It was a one story stone building with a bracketed cornice and pediment on top. An awning and some corbel brickwork and quoins are on the facade. It was destroyed in the cyclone and rebuilt as a one story brick building with slate roof. In 1900 it was the site of a clothing and furnishing store. Both Harry Williams and Tom McNally had clothes stores here. In 1912 a clothing and boot and shoes store was here. The roof was composite in 1927. Kruegers grocery was here in 1947, if not before. An early 1950's photo shows a brick facade with no cornice and plate glass windows. The entry was stepp[ed back under a canvas awning. The development of this building has no special historical significance a parallels the development of the rest of the business area. |
