This 2 story Commercial building has a flat roof. Front exterior fabric is wood and plate glass with corner entry and shingled porch like covering. There is a brick cornice left on the site (photo view) with vertical pattern brickwork. Small arched basement windows have been filled in. The side door has a brick arch. This building has too many alterations to be architecturally significanct. An 1878 photo shows this site and the one just north of it (See SC 24-25) as being Bixby and Williams General Store. A new store in brick instead of stone was built here c. 1900 after the tornado by Williams. It is a dry goods and millinery shop and smaller than 1st building. By 1912 boots and shoes are also sold. A 1911 photo shows a one story brick building with an elaborate cornice and corner entry. There is ornamental roof work and detailing under the cornice. Johnson Drugs was here from c.1925 to at least the 1950's. For a time Arnquists Grocery was in the back (See SC 25-3). A 1950 photo shows a cornice with small and large brackets and an S shaped scroll at the corner. The second story has 12 pane windows and square patterned brickwork. The development of this site parallels the rest of the business districts and has no historical significance. |
