Better than Steel

ntroduced in the mid-1930s, air-filled rubber tires dramatically improved tractor performance. Rubber tires increased power and fuel efficiency, made tractors less likely to bog down in soft ground, and allowed them to operate on paved roads. By dampening vibrations, rubber tires also reduced wear on both mechanical components and operators' backs.
