A souvenir guide to the Schlitz Brewing Company
Where Schlitz the beer that made Milwaukee famous is brewed : souvenir / Schlitz Brewing Company, Milwaukee, Wis., U.S.A.
August Krug established a brewery in Milwaukee in 1849 and built the city's first cellars the following year. When Krug died in 1856, his bookkeeper, Joseph Schlitz acquired the brewery and, strangely, Krug's wife. Sales of the beer doubled when Schlitz began selling in Chicago after the 1871 Chicago Fire. The brewery constructed a number of prominent city landmarks including Schlitz Park, the Schlitz Hotel, and the famous Schlitz Palm Garden. This souvenir brochure takes the visitor inside the Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company.
