Remarks Made on a Tour to Prairie du Chien in 1829

Atwater was one of three commissioners appointed to negotiate with the Indians. This treaty ceded most of the lead region in southwestern Wisconsin and northern Illinois to the U.S. for $500,000 to be paid over 30 years, plus $30,000 in goods and $20,000 in damages for intrusions by squatters. This is the full text of Atwater's book.
